Hey — thanks for your response and link to our video. FYI - responses to the video don’t have to be high quality, just personal and honest. We’d love to hear from you!
I was very surprised to find this on my blog so I emailed them back and wrote:
Thank you for commenting on my blog!
I have followed the HRC for many years, even before I came out. I have
also cited many papers and web pages of the HRC in the past, whether
it is for a blog post, or the research paper I did on “GLBT Civil
Rights Movement in the United States” and how it is just a
continuation of the Civil Rights Movement started in the 1800s and
1900s. The HRC has done a lot of good work for human rights, Thank
you.
Also, I think this video project that you started is a great idea. I think so, because
it is a great way to get the youth of our era to have an easy way to
be active in the furthering of Human Rights and to use there technical
skills to make a positive impact! Thank you again!
On a side note, I am curious, how did you find out about my blog?
Thank you again!
Sincerely Yours,
Josh Altemoos
I have not heard anything back yet, I’ll let you know. I did do a video for the project, I will post it here soon.
The HRC issued a press release today stating that ALL of the Democratic presidential candidate filled out their questionnaire about how they stand on LGBT issues. To view that press release click here.
The candidates that responded are Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. John Edwards, Gov. Bill Richardson, Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. Dennis Kucinic. For the first time ever all of the candidates stated their support for extending federal benefits and equal tax treatment, and extending federal benefits to same-sex partners and their children. This would override Section 3 of the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act,” which provides that for federal purposes, “The word ‘marriage’ means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ‘spouse’ refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.” (1 U.S.C. Section 7).
This is groundbreaking!!!!
The report card with the answers for his candidate can be found here
I talked about The law that was presented in front of the US House of Reps on May 3rd 2007. It was passed 237 to 180, to see who voted view the Final Roll Call. This is a historic vote that will protect the GLBT community from the oppression of the Majority against the Minority. This law protects a lot more then just the GLBT community it also protects Women and Disabled Americans, whom under the previous laws would not of been covered. To see more information check out the HRC’s website reguarding this historic vote, or view the bill (HR 1592) as passed by the house, yourself!
Just the Senate now, then to the President (he said he will veto it… lets not go there).
As a side note, I was happy to find that my repdid co sponser this bill, and she voted for it! She is Louise McIntosh Slaughter. To find if your rep co-sponsored it you can go to the HRC’s Website for a listing. To see if they voted for or against visit the Final Roll Call.
Tomorrow the “Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act” which enhances current laws, and protects all Americans from violent crimes of hate. I have wrote, called, and emailed my Congress Women whom is Louise McIntosh Slaughter she is a cosponsor for the bill!! What have you done??? Please go to the HRC’s Website regarding “The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act” and Fight Hate!!
Well, in case you didn’t know, I am moving to New Hampshire to be with my baby Chris. Last Thursday I knew about follows, but I have not had time to post about it because of work, and the family issues I talked about in “Family Trust? What is that?“.
On Thursday the State Senate of New Hampshire, approved the bill (HB 437) allowing Gay Civil Unions, they approved it 14-10. Earlier this month the House approved it with 243-129, For more on that you can check out Gay Rights Watch’s Article. The Governor is suppose to sign it once it gets on his desk.
I did not know about this when I decided to move, but it is awesome!!
