The HRC issued a press release today stating that ALL of the Democratic presidential candidate filled out their questionnaire about how they stand on LGBT issues. To view that press release click here.
The candidates that responded are Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. John Edwards, Gov. Bill Richardson, Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. Dennis Kucinic. For the first time ever all of the candidates stated their support for extending federal benefits and equal tax treatment, and extending federal benefits to same-sex partners and their children. This would override Section 3 of the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act,” which provides that for federal purposes, “The word ‘marriage’ means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ‘spouse’ refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.” (1 U.S.C. Section 7).
This is groundbreaking!!!!
