Recently I applied for my Passport, as I am a citizen of the USA (not by choice). The passport costs me a total of $112 USD (€83 EUR). That is $55 for the passport, $12 for the security fee (I have written my representatives in congress to ask about this), $30 for someone to witness me sign, plus $15 for the photos (I did not have them ahead of time…) I applied for my passport, because since I am moving I will not have the money for these kind of things later, it is a very solid form of ID accepted every where, and in case an opportunity comes up like in college or what-not to study aboard or travel I will have it already since it is good for 10 years. Plus after Jan 2008, you can not travel into Canada without a passport (Check out the WHTI for more information)
Now the application process was quite easy. I went on the Dept. of State’s website for passports which is http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html I filled out the online form and printed it out as a PDF which is here https://pptform2.state.gov/DS11/MainDS11.aspx took it to the post office, had my whole wallet copied (NYS is one of the few states that does learners permits, so I needed more id to back myself up… Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Work Ids etc…), gave them my birth certificate and social security card, and lastly took pictures and paid, I should get it in 10 weeks
This is what the passport will look like http://travel.state.gov/passport/eppt/epptnew_2807.html it is different then the older ones, which had the state logos/seals as the background on all the pages, plus the older ones do not have chips in them like the new ones do
Damn Gov’t stealing my money
Oh well
Peace
Josh
